On Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at approximately 6:15 p.m., Idaho State Police investigated a three-vehicle, injury crash eastbound I84 at milepost 31, east of Caldwell.

Diana Rodriguez, 41, of Nampa, was eastbound in the left lane of travel, driving a 1997 Ford Taurus. Abraham Valle-Ortiz, 24, of Caldwell, was directly ahead of Rodriguez in a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu. Nikolay Dmitruk, 51, of Meridian, was in the right lane of travel and driving a 1998 Freightliner semi pulling a single trailer. Valle-Oritz slowed for traffic and the Ford struck the Chevrolet from behind. The Ford lost control and spun into the median, where it rolled onto its passenger side. The Chevrolet was pushed into the Freightliner semi and came to rest blocking both eastbound lanes. The Freightliner was able to safely stop on the right shoulder of the roadway.

Rodriguez and her juvenile passenger were transported to St. Luke's in Nampa by ground ambulance, along with Valle-Ortiz and his passenger, Gerardo Esquivel, 29, of Caldwell. All occupants were wearing seatbelts.

Both lanes were blocked for approximately an hour-and-a-half while crews worked to clear the scene. Traffic was diverted around the crash on the right shoulder. Idaho State Police were assisted by the Caldwell Police Department, Canyon County EMS, and the Canyon County Fire Department. The crash is under investigation by Idaho State Police.
