THANKSGIVING WEEK HOLIDAY TRAVEL

Idaho State Police
1540 Foote Drive
Idaho Falls, ID 83402
208-525-7377

Thanksgiving weekend is just around the corner and the Idaho State Police wants to remind motorists to stay safe during their travels. The Wednesday before Thanksgiving is considered the busiest travel day of the year when many motorists take to the roads. Local law enforcement agencies including ISP have partnered with the Idaho Transportation Department's Office of Highway Safety for the upcoming Impaired Mobilization Patrol. This impaired driving campaign will run from November 17-25. During these patrols, officers will have zero tolerance for alcohol violations. Many officers will be outfitted with portable breathalyzers and extra patrol personnel will be out keeping the roadways safe.

Remember, it's against the law to text and drive. Travel to your loved ones and back home safely this year. No text message is worth losing your life.

Troopers will have zero tolerance for non-seatbelt usage including passengers. The Impaired Mobilization Patrols and promoting seatbelt usage are all part of Idaho's "Toward Zero Deaths - Every Life Counts" campaign.

Bruce D. Fitzgerald, 58 years old of Shelley, was traveling east on US26 in a 2007 Freightliner with a 2011 Great Dane trailer carrying a load of frozen hamburger patties. At approximately mile post 374, he failed to negotiate a turn causing the semi to go off the road. The trailer separated from the tractor and rolled down the river embankment into the river.
