New Crime in Idaho Dashboard launched for Easier Public Access to Crime Data
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Idaho State Police has launched a redesigned version of the Crime in Idaho data dashboard. The project is a collaborative effort between the Idaho Statistical Analysis Center (ISAC) and the Idaho Uniform Crime Reporting Program, both of which are components of the Idaho State Police.

The all-new Crime in Idaho data dashboard allows users to explore much of the data housed in the Idaho Incident-Based Reporting System, Idaho's vast repository of law enforcement data on criminal incidents. It's the same data behind the annual Crime in Idaho reports.

The new dashboard allows data collected from local and statewide Idaho agencies between 2005 and 2020 to be viewed in one place.

"This dashboard will help those from local law enforcement and criminal justice agencies, and members of the media and public to see highly customizable views and quick trend analysis of what's happening in their area." Said Thomas Strauss, Principal Research Analyst with the Idaho Statistical Analysis Center.

"We think this more visual presentation of important crime trend data will make that data easier to understand so more Idahoans can be better informed and make better decisions about safety in their community." Said Strauss.

The dashboard currently contains sections pertaining to crimes against persons and drug/alcohol-related arrests. Additional sections will follow as they are built.

About the Idaho Statistical Analysis Center:

The Idaho Statistical Analysis Center (ISAC) resides within the Planning, Grants and Research Department of the Idaho State Police. The overall purpose of ISAC, as established by the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics, is the systematic collection, analysis, and dissemination of statistics related to crime, illegal drugs, victim services, and the administration of justice.

Precious cargo is traveling our highways this Thanksgiving Weekend. Please, Drive Well, Idaho!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Troopers with the Idaho State Police remind drivers to expect heavy traffic over this Thanksgiving weekend as families travel to share the holiday with loved ones. The Idaho State Police, along with our partner law enforcement agencies, remind drivers to be especially alert to help make sure those traveling our roadways stay safe.

"We'll likely see heavy traffic all weekend, and chances are, a good number of those vehicles will be people traveling to join family or friends for Thanksgiving. Those families are precious cargo, and they're counting on all of us behind the wheel to pay attention to our driving," said ISP Lt. Sam Ketchum.

"The best thing we can do for each other is to stay alert, drive sober, be patient, and buckle up. And if possible, travel a little earlier or later to avoid the heaviest traffic times."

According to the AAA 2021 holiday travel report, 53.4 million Americans are predicted to be hitting the roads, rails, and air for Thanksgiving weekend, an increase of 13% from 2020. AAA suggests the best time to travel during the holiday week is before Noon or after 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday; before 11:00 a.m. on Thursday and Friday; and before Noon on Saturday and Sunday.

"Our Troopers will be on patrol all over the state all weekend," said Lt. Ketchum. "Troopers will help those needing assistance, and they'll be looking for those who drive impaired, drive aggressive, or engage in any other kind of dangerous driving behavior. We want folks to enjoy their holidays and that means working together to keep Idaho families safe and whole. We appreciate drivers who help us do that."

Travel Advisory, Road Conditions:

Idaho Highway 55 remains closed in both directions near Smiths Ferry due to a rock slide.
Travelers are advised to monitor 511.idaho.gov for updates on road closures and conditions.

Winter Driving Safety:

The Idaho State Police share tips to help keep drivers and their passengers safe during winter driving conditions. You can find them at https://isp.idaho.gov/citizen-resources/road/driving-safely-during-idaho-winters/

Easier new process for requesting public records through the Idaho State Police
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Excellent customer service is a fundamental value of the Idaho State Police. Now, with the launch of a new public records management program, one of the agency's most frequently used services is easier and more convenient for the public.

Beginning November 15, 2021, all requests for public records will be completed by simply clicking on the Public Records Request tab on the Idaho State Police website, isp.idaho.gov. The request will be immediately forwarded to ISP public records custodians.

The new request process coincides with ISP's launch of a new public records request and management program through GovQA, an industry leader in government records software. In addition to making requests easier for the public, the program is also designed to increase efficiency for ISP records custodians managing requests, maintain transparency, and ensure compliance with the Idaho Public Records Act.

The new easy-to-find website tab at isp.idaho.gov will replace email, mailed, or faxed public records requests consolidating the delivery of all requests for added efficiency.

Please begin using the program located at isp.idaho.gov for public records requests beginning Monday, November 15, 2021. Thank you.

Career Fair will accelerate the hiring process for those interested in a rewarding career as an ISP Dispatcher
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Idaho State Police is holding a Career Fair next week to speed up the hiring process for those interested in a rewarding career as a law enforcement dispatcher.

The Idaho State Police operates two Regional Communications Centers, one in Coeur d'Alene and one at ISP's headquarters campus in Meridian. Emergency calls from the entire state are transferred to one of two ISP dispatch centers. The Regional Communications Officers (RCOs), often known as dispatchers, are highly trained to be calm yet quick and focused. ISP RCOs have excellent interpersonal skills, and their ability to accurately receive and process information during high stress situations saves lives.

ISP RCOs have the added opportunity to help Troopers and citizens throughout the state of Idaho.

"Every day ISP dispatchers make a difference in people's lives. It's a rewarding, exciting, and truly meaningful career," said Lt Jens Pattis, acting Commander of the ISP Communications Centers.
"ISP RCOs are also just a great group of people, and we're looking for new members who want a work experience that's meaningful and supportive because that's what we have in the ISP dispatch centers,"
Currently, ISP has openings for dispatchers in both Meridian and Coeur d'Alene, and next Monday's career fair in Meridian is open to those who wish to apply for positions in either location.

What benefits will the ISP Dispatch Career Fair have for job candidates?
