Three vehicle crash on I-84 in Canyon County sends four to the hospital
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Idaho State Police Troopers responded to a three-vehicle collision in Canyon County Thursday that sent four people to the hospital.

Troopers were called to Interstate 84 at mile 23 in Caldwell at 12:49 p.m. Thursday, July 22. It appears the driver of a Toyota SUV, an 85-year-old man from Weiser, Idaho, failed to slow with traffic and rear-ended a Dodge van, which was pushed into a Chevy Suburban.

The driver of the Toyota was taken by air ambulance to a Boise hospital with what appeared on scene to be potentially life-threatening injuries.

The passenger in the Toyota, an 86-year-old woman from Weiser, and both people in the Dodge van, a man and woman from Utah, were also transported to a Boise hospital. The driver and a juvenile passenger in the Suburban were treated and released on scene.

Traffic on westbound I-84 was stopped or slowed for approximately two hours to allow for emergency responders to aid those involved and investigate what happened. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing by Idaho State Police.

Troopers Hope to Locate the Vehicle that Lost a Metal Shelving Rack on I-84
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Drop something?

Idaho State Police are looking for witnesses to help them find whoever lost a large metal shelving rack on Interstate 84 in Nampa earlier this week.

On Tuesday, June 29th at 6:22 a.m., ISP Troopers responded to a call of a single-vehicle crash on the westbound interstate between Franklin and Northside Boulevards. The rack was reportedly blocking the lane closest to the median. A driver of a small Toyota SUV reports swerving to avoid hitting the metal rack and striking the median. The driver, a 20-year-old man from Cascade was taken to a nearby hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigating Troopers would like to locate the vehicle that lost the rack and speak with the driver. Anyone with information is urged to call ISP District 3 at 208-884-7360.

Secure Your Load!

Troopers remind motorists to make sure all items are securely fastened to a vehicle or trailer. Tarps, bungee cords, or rope are easily available and can keep items from becoming flying debris and roadway hazards.

If you see a roadway hazard, call *ISP (*477) or 911.

2020 Crime In Idaho Report released
-------------------------------------------

The Idaho State Police Bureau of Criminal Identification has released their annual "Crime in Idaho" report for 2020. The report is a synopsis of statewide crime statistics gathered from law enforcement agencies across Idaho and includes such things as the Statewide Crime Profile, Crimes against Persons, Property, Society, the Arrest Profile, Hate Crime in Idaho, Law Enforcement Officers Killed or Assaulted, crimes categorized by jurisdiction and many other statistics.

The 2020 Crime in Idaho Report has been released via the interactive Crime Dashboard. You can find the dashboard at https://nibrs.isp.idaho.gov/CrimeInIdaho

The dashboard allows the public to look at the crime trends for a particular city, county, or at the state level. Users have the capability of running many prepared reports and 'ad-hoc' queries of any data elements collected by ISP on a single reported crime. It allows the public, academia, law enforcement and criminal justice agencies timely report capabilities without having to go through the process of submitting a public records request. On this website the public can also view the most current and archived "Crime in Idaho Publications."

NOTE TO THE PRESS:

While ISP's Bureau of Criminal Identification can assist you in reviewing the information contained in the report, we are not able to provide a causative interpretation as to why crime may be up or down in certain areas. We suggest contacting local jurisdictions for possible crime trend analysis.

Please direct questions to the District 6 Office.

Members of the Idaho State Police are among the thousands of Idahoans getting ready for the Melaleuca Freedom Celebration in Idaho Falls Saturday, July 3. Now in its 28th year, the huge display of fireworks will again take place at the Snake River Landing along the Idaho Falls Greenbelt Loop.

While the celebration honors veterans, soldiers, and their families, for ISP, the celebration also means making sure those attending get to and from the celebration safely.

ISP is working with our partners at the Idaho Transportation Department, the Idaho Falls Police Department, and the City of Idaho Falls Public Works on the safe management of traffic for the fireworks event.

A large number of people are expected to attend and enjoy the fireworks. For that reason, those attending are urged to be aware of the following:

- Plan to arrive early and expect a large volume of traffic.

- Park only in designated areas. Those parking outside designated areas, for emergency vehicle access and the safety of others, risk being cited or towed.

- Drivers: watch for a large number of pedestrians, including families and young children.

- Expect road closures to begin approximately 9:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Traffic management will be fluid depending on the crowd size and road congestion.

- Pack Your Patience! Plan for large crowds and expect delays. Parking and traffic congestion are only because so many members of our community are excited to be part of this patriotic celebration. Planning and patience will go a long way toward keeping the event safe and enjoyable.
