On July 27, 2021, at approximately 5:50 a.m., Idaho State Police investigated a single-vehicle crash at US95 near milepost 251, approximately 3-miles south of Cottonwood, Idaho.

Brian H. Heywood, 53, of Spokane, WA, was driving southbound on US95 in a 2018 Peterbilt semi-truck, pulling fuel tanker trailers. Heywood fell asleep as he entered a left hand curve and went off the right hand shoulder. The tanker trailer detached from the semi and rolled into a field, coming to rest on its top. Approximately 4,000 gallons of gasoline was spilled from the trailer into the field. The company, Jacksons Energy, contacted a hazmat cleanup crew out of Tri-Cities, Washington. The driver was cited for inattentive driving. He was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the crash. US95 was blocked intermittently throughout the day and will continue until the trailer is recovered sometime this afternoon. There were no passengers in the vehicle.
