On Friday, January 29, 2016, at approximately 6:15 P.M., Idaho State Police investigated a one vehicle roll over crash on Interstate 15, near milepost 25, in Bannock County.

Joseph Barcelon, 63, of Salt Lake City, UT, was driving northbound on I15 in a 2014 Ram 1500 pick-up. Joseph drove into the median and rolled the pick-up.

All occupants were wearing seat belts.

Joseph's passenger Randi Honsvick, 28, of Salt Lake City, UT, was transported by ground ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello, ID.

On Friday, January 29, 2016, at 7:07 a.m., the Idaho State Police investigated a single vehicle fatality crash. Robert Magers, 64, of Weiser, ID was driving eastbound on Weiser River Rd near the Presley Bridge when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road. The vehicle went off the road and rolled approximately 300 ft. down an embankment, where it came to rest near the river.


Magers was unrestrained and the sole occupant of the vehicle. The crash is believed to have happened at approximately midnight the night before. The next of kin has been notified. There was no blockage.


This case is currently under investigation by the Idaho State Police.

On Thursday, January 28, 2016, at 4:30 a.m., the Idaho State Police investigated a one vehicle injury crash on eastbound Interstate 84 at milepost 69.5, east of Boise.

Michael Nappi, 25, of Signal Hill, California, was traveling eastbound in a 2012 Suzuki hatchback passenger car when he fell asleep. The vehicle left the roadway and overturned. Nappi and his passenger, Nicholas Duchene, 25, of Anaheim, California, were injured in the crash.

Nappi fled the scene of the crash and was apprehended by the Ada County Sheriff's Office.

Nappi was arrested for outstanding felony warrants and leaving the scene of a crash. Nappi will be charged by Idaho State Police with trafficking of heroin, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of various types of prescription medicine.

Duchene was arrested for trafficking of heroin, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of various types of prescription medicine.

This crash remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police.

On Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at 7:35 a.m., the Idaho State Police investigated a four vehicle, injury crash eastbound on I-184 at milepost 3, west of the River Street Exit in Boise.

Cody J. McLees, 23, of New Plymouth, was traveling eastbound on I-184 in a 2012 Dodge R3500 pickup, when he failed to stop for slowing traffic ahead of him. McLees braked but struck a 2003 Dodge Durango, driven by Wesley D. Phillips, 56, of Boise.

The impact caused a chain reaction involving two other vehicles, which were stopped in backed-up traffic. The other vehicles involved were a 2008 Ford F250 pickup, driven by Joshua R. Sittser, 41, of Boise, and a 2015 Ford Explorer, driven by Mauricio A. Steffen, 35, of Nampa.

Sittser was transported by ground ambulance to St. Luke's Hospital Downtown. All drivers were wearing seatbelts. Three lanes of travel eastbound on I-184 were blocked for about two and a half hours after the collision.

Due to heavy congestion in the area, the Idaho State Police investigated three additional non-injury crashes eastbound on I-184 between mileposts 2 and 3.

On Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at approximately 4:00 p.m., Idaho State Police investigated a three vehicle crash northbound on US93 near the Interstate 84 on ramp, north of Twin Falls. Lawrence Green, age 71, of Wendell, was driving northbound on US93 in a 2012 Chevy Silverado, when he failed to slow for traffic that was stopped at a red light. Green's vehicle collided with a 2007 Chrysler Town and Country driven by Dennis Becker, age 61, of Twin Falls. Becker's vehicle then collided with a 2008 Ford F150, driven by Ana Cunningham, age 41, of Buhl. Both Green and Becker were transported by ground ambulance to St. Luke's Magic Valley in Twin Falls.

The right northbound lane of travel was blocked for approximately one hour and thirty minutes while crews worked to clear the scene. The crash is under investigation by the Idaho State Police.

On Monday January 25th, at approximately 3:48 pm, the Idaho State Police investigated a two-vehicle injury crash. Mark Lyons, 43 of Idaho Falls, was traveling northbound on Yellowstone Highway in a 2005 GMC Sierra. Shelley Courts, 29 of Idaho Falls, was traveling southbound on Yellowstone Highway in a red 2002 Kia Spectra, and failed to yield while attempting to make a left turn. Lyons' vehicle collided with Courts' vehicle at the intersection of Sunnyside Road.
Courts, a male passenger and two juveniles were taken by ground ambulance to Eastern Idaho Medical Center, in Idaho Falls. All occupants were wearing seatbelts except Courts' male passenger.
Idaho State Police were assisted by Bonneville County Sheriff and Idaho Falls EMS.

Deputies with the Gooding County Sheriff's Office were involved in a vehicle pursuit with a 1999 Ford F-250. The Ford got onto the interstate at the 157 onramp, driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of travel. At milepost 164, the Ford hit a westbound 2016 Kenworth pulling a single van trailer, driven by Casey Tippetts, 53, of Buffalo, Wyoming.

The driver of the Ford was taken into custody. Tippetts was not injured in the crash. A passenger in the Ford succumbed to injuries sustained at the scene of the crash. It is unknown if any of the occupants were wearing seatbelts. The westbound lanes were blocked for approximately four hours. Next of kin has not been notified. The names of the occupants of the Ford are not being released at this time.

The crash is under investigation by the Idaho State Police.

On January 24, 2016, at approximately 5:20 p.m., Idaho State police investigated a two-vehicle injury crash on State Highway 55 at milepost 57, near the Horseshoe Bend Hill Summit, in Boise County, ID.

Carmen I. Baker, 74, of Meridian, ID was driving southbound in a 2014 Honda CRV. Baker had slowed her speed to accommodate a difficult driving situation with slowed traffic in front of her. All southbound traffic was driving with the sun shining directly in their eyes.

Shelly L. Culver, 62, of Boise, ID was also driving southbound in a 2015 Ford F150 pickup. As Culver approached the slowed traffic, she did not adequately slow her vehicle, and struck Baker's vehicle.

Also travelling in Culver's vehicle was Debra S. Uptmor, 58, of Caldwell, ID. Culver and Uptmor were transported by air ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, ID. Baker was transported by ground ambulance to St. Alphonsus Eagle Health Plaza in Eagle, ID. All occupants of both vehicles were wearing seatbelts.

The southbound lane of travel was blocked for approximately two and one half hours. The crash investigation is continuing.

Shortly before 1:00 a.m., this morning, January 24, 2016, the Idaho State Police investigated a crash westbound on I84 at milepost 182, near the junction of Highway 50. Aileen Medrano, age 19 of Rupert, was westbound in a Volkswagen Jetta when she struck a Chrysler minivan from behind. The identity of the driver of the minivan has not yet been verified. After impact, the Volkswagen continued across the median, over the eastbound lanes and the frontage road, and came to rest in a field. The minivan continued to the north of the interstate and rolled. Medrano and her passenger were transported to St. Alphonsus in Twin Falls. Several of the occupants of the minivan were also transported.

Medrano and her passenger were not wearing their seatbelts. Several passengers in the minivan were wearing seatbelts, while others were not. Charges are pending against Medrano. The investigation is ongoing.

On Saturday, January 23, 2016, at 5:55 a.m. the Idaho State Police investigated a fatality hit and run crash in Filer. An unknown vehicle was westbound on U.S. Highway 30 when it struck a pedestrian in the road in front of the Franklin United Oil in Filer. The pedestrian, Ronald Miller, age 78 of Filer, succumbed to his injuries on scene.

The Idaho State Police is following up several leads; the vehicle involved may possibly be a light colored 4 door sedan. We are requesting the public's assistance with any information that may help locate and identify the vehicle and driver involved. U.S. Highway 30 was blocked for approximately 2 and half hours. This crash is under investigation by the Idaho State Police with assistance from the Twin Falls County Sheriff's Office and the Filer Police Department.

The highway is now clear.

On Friday, January 22, 2016, at approximately 9:30 a.m. Idaho state police investigated a single vehicle property damage crash involving a power pole on highway 30 near Ash Street North in Kimberly.

Kaiokiakaika Correa, 34, of Twin Falls, was driving a 2005 Peterbilt commercial vehicle, dropping off a container. The mast was up on the vehicle and caught on some power cables above the roadway as it moved forward. The power pole was pulled down, blocking both directions on highway 30. On Thursday, January 21, 2016, at approximately 5:45 p.m., Idaho State Police investigated a motorcycle crash on the westbound I-84 137 on-ramp. Thomas H. Wheeler Jr., 67, of Spokane Valley, Washington, was driving a 2008 Honda motorcycle on the on-ramp and lost control. Wheeler went off of the on-ramp into the gore area, where his motorcycle went airborne and flipped. Both Wheeler and the motorcycle came to rest in the median.

Wheeler was transported via ground ambulance to the Bliss Rest Area where an air ambulance transported him to St. Alphonsus in Boise. Wheeler was not wearing a helmet.

On Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at approximately 7:18 pm, the Idaho State Police investigated a two-vehicle injury crash on US30 at milepost 368.8, near Lava Hot Springs. Melvin Frandsen, 91 of Lava Hot Springs, was driving a 1989 Chevrolet Caprice. Frandsen failed to yield coming out of a private driveway on the south side of US30,striking an eastbound 2001 Honda Accord , driven by Richard Tullock, 60 of Lava Hot Springs. Both vehicles came to rest blocking the westbound lanes. The lanes were blocked for approximately two hours. Frandsen was transported by private vehicle to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello. Neither of the drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of crash. The crash is under investigation by Idaho State Police.

On Sunday, January 17, 2016, at approximately 5:00 P.M., Idaho State Police investigated a four vehicle property damage crash on State Highway 55 near milepost 100, on Rainbow Bridge, in Valley County.

Jason Dunn, 34, of Boise, ID, was driving southbound on SH55 in a 2004 Chevrolet Venture van. Dunn crossed the center line into the northbound lanes of travel striking a 2015 Subaru Forester on the driver's side. The Subaru was driven by Cory Hamilton, 50, of McCall, ID. Dunn's Chevrolet struck a 2013 Ford F150 pickup. The Ford pickup was driven by Adam Pishl, 43, of Boise, ID. Dunn's Chevrolet then bounced off the bridge rail of the southbound lane and collided with a 2004 Toyota Corolla causing it to slide broadside. The Toyota was driven by Daniel Bixler, 26, of Cascade, ID.

State Highway 55 was blocked for approximately one and a half hours until the wreckage was removed from the roadway.

On January 16, 2016, at approximately 12:33 p.m., Idaho State Police investigated a commercial vehicle crash at the intersection of 650 East and 300 South in Jerome County. Timothy Wallis, age 50, of Pocatello, was traveling eastbound on 300 South near 650 East in a 2009 Kenworth semi pulling a single tanker trailer filled with natural gas. Wallis pulled over to the right shoulder of the roadway at 650 East to look at directions. Wallis' semi was parked partially off the embankment and rolled onto its side. No natural gas leaked from the tank when Wallis' semi rolled on its side.

The roadway is currently closed from 600 East to 700 East until the semi can be recovered. Wallis was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the crash. The crash is under investigation by Idaho State Police.

On Saturday, January 16, 2016, at approximately 12:28 p.m., the Idaho State Police investigated a two-vehicle, injury crash southbound I-15 at milepost 36, north of Downey.

Shavon Hill, 35, of Hyrum, Utah, was northbound on I-15 at milepost 36 in a 2007 Chrysler Sebring. Colleen Abbott, 31, of Pocatello, was southbound on I-15 at milepost 36 in a 1999 Nissan Altima. The Chrysler went through the median and into the southbound lanes, where it struck the Nissan. The Chrysler came to rest on the right shoulder. The Nissan came to rest on the median shoulder.

The lanes were partially blocked for approximately one hour while crews worked to clear the scene. All occupants were transported to the Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello by ground ambulance. Hill was not wearing a seatbelt, but her juvenile passenger was. Abbott was wearing a seatbelt.

The crash is under investigation by the Idaho State Police.

On Friday, January 08, 2016, at 8:58 a.m., the Idaho State Police investigated a three-vehicle, fatality crash eastbound I-84 at milepost 77.5, 13 miles west of Mountain Home.

A 2010 Toyota Tacoma was westbound on I-84 when the vehicle left the roadway, crossed the median and entered the eastbound lanes. The Toyota then struck a 1999 Kenworth semi pulling a single flatbed trailer loaded with tires and axles. The Kenworth was being driven by Michael Collins, 53, of Boise. The Toyota came to rest in the eastbound lanes. The semi jackknifed, with the cab coming to rest in the median and the trailer blocking both eastbound lanes. The load came off the trailer, with the tires and axles blocking both east and westbound lanes. James Warren, 44, of Mountain Home, was westbound on I-84 in a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado. Warren swerved to avoid a tire in the lanes and entered the median, where the Chevrolet came to rest.

All occupants were wearing their seatbelts. The driver of the Toyota succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash. Both the passenger of the Toyota and Warren were transported to the St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise by ground ambulance. Both eastbound lanes were blocked for approximately an hour and twenty minutes, and the left lane was blocked for an additional twenty minutes. Notification is still being made to next of kin.
The crash is under investigation by the Idaho State Police.

On Thursday, January 07, 2016 at approximately 5:24pm, the Idaho State Police investigated a two vehicle crash on interstate 15 at milepost 59, near Inkom.

Braxton Jensen, 20, of Pocatello, was driving northbound in a 1999 GMC Sierra, when he struck a deer in the roadway. As Jensen was attempting to pull over, he was struck from behind by Paul Tanner, 37, of Inkom, in a 2007 Pontiac Grand Am. Both vehicles came to rest in the median of interstate 15.

Tanner was transported by ground ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello. Tanner was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of crash. Jensen and his passenger were both wearing seatbelts. The crash is under investigation by the Idaho State Police.

On Thursday, January 7, 2016, at 8:48 a.m., the Idaho State Police investigated a three-vehicle injury crash on the westbound exit 46 offramp of Interstate 84 near Eagle Road.

A 2001 Nissan Altima, driven by Matthew Devinaspre, 27, of Boise, and a 2014 Ford Escape, driven by Jessica Noel, 22, of Meridian, were slowing to stop for a red light on the offramp at Eagle Road. Both cars were in the right lane and traffic was backed up at the light. The light turned green as Erin Willey, 28 of Boise, driving a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling down the offramp from Interstate 84. Willey failed to stop for traffic on the offramp. The Jeep struck the rear of the Ford Escape. The Ford Escape struck the rear of the Nissan Altima.

Devinaspre was the only one not wearing a seatbelt and was transported by ground ambulance to St. Luke's in Meridian. No road blockage was reported.

This crash is under investigation by the Idaho State Police.

Idaho State Police Road Safe Class Coeur d Alene

The Idaho State Police will be holding a Road Safe Class for the 2015/2016 winter season on Saturday, January 9, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The class will be held at the Idaho State Police District 1 Office located at 615 West Wilbur Avenue in Coeur d Alene (Meeting Room A & B).

This is the thirteenth year this award-winning program has been offered to the public.

This is presented in a classroom setting designed to educate drivers of all ages (teens, adults and seniors), on the typical problems associated with winter road conditions in Idaho. The class consists of a PowerPoint presentation and video giving safe driving tips, as well as suggestions to prepare for the winter driving season. Other topics discussed will be how to deal with aggressive drivers, DUIs, and other driving problems and situations encountered on the roadways. The class will last for approximately 3 hours. There is no cost for the class.

Hazardous Road Conditions North Idaho

The current snow fall is causing hazardous road conditions on roadways throughout North Idaho. The Idaho State Police is currently dealing with numerous slide off vehicles on I90 and US95. Motorists are encouraged to only drive if necessary, use caution and drive slowly. Thank you.
