On August 4th, 2017 around 8:51 pm, a fatal crash occurred on Forest Service Road 301 near milepost 2.2, near Clarkia ID. A 1995 Freightliner truck, driven by Christopher L Wilman (age 64 of Juliaetta ID) was eastbound attempting to negotiate a left turn when he drove off the right shoulder, going down an embankment. Wilman was trapped inside the vehicle. He was not wearing a seatbelt, and was declared deceased at the scene by the Benewah County coroner. Family death notifications have been made. The truck was taken by Nickersons Towing. Other assisting agencies were Upriver Ambulance and Upriver Fire Dept. The investigation is continuing.
