On Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at approximately 7:50 a.m., Idaho State Police investigated a one vehicle crash on State Highway 31 at mile marker 14.6, just south of the Pine Creek Campground in Teton County. Ronald Tjaarda, 23, from Port Orchard, Washington, was northbound on State Highway 31, in a black 2007 Toyota Corolla. Tjaarda entered a curve too fast and went off the right side of the road. He then came back on the road, overcorrected, and skidded back off the right side of the road, and down an embankment. The Toyota hit a tree on the driver side door and roof area, and came to rest on its wheels. Tjaarda and his passenger, Nikolai Tymkiw, 22, from Pennsylvania, were both transported by ground ambulance to Teton Valley Hospital in Driggs, Idaho with serious, but non life-threatening injuries. Tjaarda was later transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls. Both Tjaarda and Tymkiw were wearing seat belts. This crash is under investigation by Idaho State Police Cpl. M. Cox, with assistance from Cpl. A. Bivins.
