On September 13, 2010, at approximately 8:02 AM, the Idaho State Police responded to a three vehicle, personal injury crash on Interstate 84 near milepost 47 (just east of Cloverdale Road) in Ada County. Marvin Clelland, age 61 of Caldwell and driving a 2006 Kenworth tractor-trailer, was traveling east on the interstate in heavy traffic. Andrew Pharis, age 22 of Meridian and driving a 2001 Ford Focus, was traveling east on the interstate in front of Clelland. Katie E. Jansen-VanBeek, age 25 of Nampa and driving a 1995 Mazda Protege, was traveling east on the interstate in front of Pharis. Jansen-VanBeek and Pharis slowed for traffic slowing in front of them and Clelland, who was preparing to change lanes from left to right, was unable to stop before rear ending Pharis. Pharis subsequently rear ended Jansen-VanBeek. Three of the four eastbound lanes of travel were subsequently blocked for approximately one hour as a result of the collision. Both Pharis and Jansen-VanBeek were transported to Saint Alphonsus RMC in Boise with minor injuries. Clelland was cited for following too close, I.C. 49-638.
