On Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at approximately 12:04 a.m., Idaho State Police investigated a single vehicle semi crash eastbound on Interstate 84 at milepost 9, in Payette County, Idaho. Mark Grey, 49, of Vallejo, CA, was traveling eastbound on Interstate 84 in a red 2009 Peterbilt Semi Truck pulling a trailer loaded with potatoes; the semi failed to maintain the lane of travel and struck the guardrail on the right shoulder, separating the interstate from the off ramp. The semi then overturned and exploded into flames, blocking both eastbound lanes. Grey and his passenger, Jeff Jackson, 33, of Utah were transported to Holy Rosary Medical Center in Ontario, Oregon, where Jackson was treated for minor injuries. Alcohol is not a factor in this crash.
Idaho Transportation Department is continuing to divert traffic eastbound at milepost nine, using the milepost nine off and on ramp. It is unknown at this time when the eastbound lanes will be reopened.
Tpr. B. Bake was assisted at the scene by Sgt. Burke, Cpl. M. Thompson, Tpr. Chase, Payette County Deputies, Fruitland Police Department, Idaho Transportation Department, Fire and EMS personnel.
