On Friday September 10, 2010 at approximately 7:41 am the Idaho State Police investigated a single vehicle injury crash eastbound on State Highway 44 at Cemetery Road in Middleton. Harold Sharpe, 89, of Caldwell, was traveling eastbound on State Highway 44 at Cemetery Road in his GMC pickup when he struck Colton Mackey, 15, of Middleton, who was walking in or near the crosswalk of the eastbound lane.

Colton was transported to Saint Alphonsus in Boise with life threatening injuries. Harold was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and was not injured. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor of the crash; however it is suspected that the sunrise played a factor contributing to visibility issues.

This crash is still under investigation by Corporal Gripton who was assisted at the scene of Corporal Rice, Corporal Ketchum, and Trooper Higley, as well as Canyon County Deputies and Paramedics.
