On Friday, September 3, 2010, at 6:30pm, the Idaho State Police investigated a two vehicle injury crash at the intersection of 19th Street and Fife Avenue in Idaho Falls. A gold Pontiac Grand Am, driven by Jaime Chavez, was involved in several hit and run crashes. When Idaho Falls Police Department located and attempted to pull Chavez over, he failed to stop for the officers. At the intersection of 19th Street and Fife Avenue, Chavez collided with a blue Dodge Caravan, driven by 61 year old Carol Messmer. Chavez, Carol Messmer, and her passenger, Patricia Messmer, were all transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries. Chavez was treated and released into the custody of the Idaho Falls Police Department, and then booked into the Bonneville County Jail. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash. Chavez is being charged with felony eluding and aggravated DUI. This crash is under investigation by Cpl. V. Cox.
