Idaho State Police announces new deputy director
Following Governor C.L. "Butch" Otter's announcement of Lt. Col. Kedrick Wills as the next Idaho State Police director, Colonel Wills has designated his own replacement. The appointment of Major Sheldon Kelley as the ISP deputy director will become effective once Colonel Ralph Powell retires and Colonel Wills assumes his role as director on June 30.
Major Sheldon Kelley, a native of Rupert, Idaho, will assume his new rank of Lt. Colonel on July 2. He began his career with the Idaho State Police in 1997 following six years of service in the United States Army. After attending the Idaho Peace Officer Standards Training and ISP training academies, he was assigned as a resident trooper to the Gooding County area. In 2002, he was promoted to ISP District 3 (Treasure Valley) Investigations as a member of a narcotics investigation team. Maj. Kelley then took a position as a Sergeant in District 3 Patrol in 2008. He was promoted to District 3 Patrol lieutenant in 2010, Headquarters captain in 2012, and then to major in April 2016. He is proud to have served nine years on the ISP Honor Guard. Maj. Kelley holds a Bachelor's Degree from Metropolitan State University of Denver, possesses the POST Management Certificate, and is a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command, the FBI Executive Command College, and the FBI National Academy as a member of the 261st Session.
"Major Kelley is highly deserving of this promotion and I'm confident he'll handle his new role with the integrity and outstanding attention to detail for which he is well known throughout ISP and the Idaho law enforcement community," said Colonel Wills.
"I believe the men and women of the Idaho State Police are a group of incredibly smart, talented and dedicated people," Maj. Kelley said. "I am honored to be part of such a progressive and professional organization."
