On July 5th, 2019 at 8:54 am, the Idaho State Police responded to a commercial motorvehicle crash westbound I90 at milepost 17, near Mullan Trail Road. William Rice, 17, of Rathdrum was travelling eastbound on I90 in a red and white 1990 Ford Bronco when it lost a tire. Benjamin Barney, 55, of Clermont, Florida, was travelling westbound in a white 2015 Volvo Tractor Trailer when he struck the tire. The tire punctured one of the left side diesel tanks, causing the fuel to spill across both westbound lanes of the interstate. A hazmat team and clean-up crew responded to clean the spill. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and there were no injuries. The roadway was blocked for aproximately one to two hours, while clean-up took just over eleven hours. The investigation is continuing.
