On Thursday, August 19, 2021, Nicholas Burkenbine, 33 years old, of Grangeville, Idaho, succumbed to his injuries at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, WA. Next of kin has been notified.

On August 18, 2021 at 5:45 pm the Idaho State Police, assisted by Idaho County, Lewis County, Kooskia Ambulance, Kooskia Fire, Lowell QRU and the Idaho Transportation Department responded to a two vehicle fatality crash on US12 at milepost 84.3. Nicholas J. Burkenbine, 33 years old, of Grangeville, Idaho was westbound driving a black 2010 Toyota Tacoma pickup. Mr. Burkenbine was negotiating a curve in the road and for an unknown reason crossed into the eastbound lanes of travel. Peter J. Talbot, 60 years old, of St. Augustine, Florida was eastbound in a white 2015 Dodge Durango and was struck by Mr. Burkenbine. Mr. Talbot succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash and was wearing his seatbelt. Mr. Burkenbine was airlifted to St. Joseph?s Regional Medical in Lewiston and it is unknown if he was wearing his seatbelt. The roadway was completely blocked for approximately 3.5 hours. Next of kin has been notified. The investigation is continuing.
