* Update *

On Sunday, April 30, 2017, at approximately 10:20 p.m., the Idaho State Police investigated a two-vehicle crash on US20 near milepost 14, west of Notus.

David Gates, 47, of Grangeville, was driving eastbound in a 2000 Kenworth semi. A 2015 Kia Optima was traveling westbound, crossed over the center line, and struck the semi head on. Both vehicles caught fire.

The driver of the Kia was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. They succumbed to their injuries on scene.
Gates was wearing his seatbelt and was not transported.

The highway was blocked for approximately six hours.
