On June 12, 2014, at approximately 2:00 p.m., Idaho State Police investigated a two-vehicle injury crash eastbound Interstate 84 at milepost 57, near Gowen Road. Travis Montes, age 32, of Payette, ID, was traveling east on Interstate 84 in a 2014 Subaru Impreza. Robert Marquez, age 57, of Ogden, UT; Wahkeena Montes, age 33, of Payette, ID; Christopher Marquez, age 35, of Ogden, UT; and two juveniles were passengers in Montes' vehicle. Jack Norton, age 75, of Parma, ID, was traveling east on Interstate 84 in a 2004 Hyundai Sonata. Christopher Marquez became upset with Montes and grabbed the steering wheel of the Impreza. The Impreza then struck the Sonata, and the vehicles came to rest in the right lane of travel.

Norton and his passenger, Debra Norton, age 62 of Parma, ID, were transported by ground ambulance to St. Luke's in Boise. None of the occupants of Montes' vehicle were transported to the hospital. One lane of eastbound travel was blocked for approximately two and a half hours while crews worked to clear the scene.

Christopher Marquez fled the scene after the crash, and was taken into custody by Boise Police Department within half an hour. Marquez was charged with a felony count of aggravated battery, a felony count of leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, a felony count of injury to a child, and a felony count of malicious injury to property. The crash is under investigation by Idaho State Police.
