On Thursday, June 9, 2011, at approximately 2:00 pm, the Idaho State Police investigated a report of a hay truck that was on fire traveling westbound on Interstate 84 at milepost 169 near Jerome. Officers located the 1995 Volvo semi driven by James Perotto, 26 of Declo, stopped at milepost 169, the second hay trailer fully engulfed. With the help of the Idaho Transportation Department and a front end loader, the trailers were separated and the hay pushed onto the shoulder of the road. Signs will be placed in the area and units from the Idaho State Police and Jerome County Sheriff's Department will check on the hay as it is expected to smolder throughout the night. The right lane of travel was blocked for approximately three hours as fire crews worked on extinguishing the flames and the tow truck removed the trailer.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. The incident was investigated by Trooper Comorosky of the Idaho State Police with assistance from Sgt Oliver, Sgt Thompson, Jerome County Deputies, and the Idaho Transportation Department.
