On Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 07:18 a.m., Idaho State Police investigated a two vehicle fatality crash on US Highway 20 at milepost 124, 29 miles east of Mountain Home.

Christy Pate, 39 of Boise, ID, was driving westbound on US20 in a 2001 Saturn passenger car when for reasons under investigation, struck the rear of a 1979 crane commercial truck driven by George Rodrigues, 38 of Mountain Home.

Pate and her passenger, Kasey Hiatt, 15 of Boise, were transported by air ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise where Hiatt was in critical condition. Hiatt later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. Next of kin for Hiatt has been notified. Rodrigues was not injured.

Both Pate and Hiatt along with Rodrigues were wearing their seatbelt and airbags did deploy. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

Both lanes of US20 were blocked for approximately three and a half hours while crews investigated the crash.
