On Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at 11:45 p.m, Idaho State Police investigated a non-injury crash involving a semi under the eastbound Five Mile overpass on Interstate 84 in Boise. Ronald W. Rice, 48 of Shelton, Washington, fell asleep while driving a 2012 Volvo Semi with a single box trailer hauling dry milk products. The semi went off the right shoulder at milepost 48 striking the end of the guardrail and dislodging the fuel tank. Causing a small fire on the right shoulder that was quickly put out. The semi then crossed the lanes striking the concrete barrier on the median side where it came to rest. No injuries were reported, seatbelts were worn. Neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor.

Eastbound Interstate 84 was blocked for several hours following this crash. Right lanes were reopened at 2:18 a.m. The left lanes are still currently blocked due to clean up but is expected to be opened before 6 a.m.

This crash was investigated by Senior Trooper Bake, with assistance from several Idaho State Police Troopers, Idaho Transportation Department, Boise City Police and Ada County Deputies.
