On Sunday November 28, 2010, the Idaho State Police investigated a fatal crash eastbound on I84 at milepost 188 near the Hazelton exit. Caleb Cornaby, 22, of Clinton, UT was driving his 1998 Toyota Corolla when he lost control in the slick conditions, sliding into the median. Cornaby's rear passenger, Dallin Briner, 22, of Meridian, ID exited the vehicle to assist in digging the Corolla out of the snow. While Briner was digging his vehicle out, David Newey, 22, of Orangevale, CA lost control of his 1992 Toyota 4Runner sliding into the median, striking Briner and the Corolla. Newey's vehicle then went back into traffic where it was struck by a 2007 Mercury Montego being driven by Francois Rook, 62, of Sandy, UT. Officers on scene provided rescue breathing for Briner until EMS arrived. Briner passed away on scene due to injuries sustained in the crash. None of the occupants of the vehicles were injured in the crash and all were wearing their seat belts.

This crash is still under investigation by the Idaho State Police Trooper C. Clausing with assistance from Trooper J. Kilton with assistance from the Jerome County Sheriff's Department and EMS.
