On Saturday, July 31, 2010 Idaho State Police along with Gem County Sheriff's Office and emergency crews investigated a one motorcycle crash on SH52 at milepost 40, near the Black Canyon Dam northeast of Emmett. Gilbert Tweedy, 48, of Caldwell, and his son Daniel, 17, were eastbound when the kickstand on his 2005 Harley Davidson made contact with the pavement. The motorcycle hit the guardrail. Both riders were ejected and landed off the roadway down an embankment. Daniel was wearing a helmet. Gilbert was not. Gilbert was flown by air ambulance to St. Alphonsus in Boise. Daniel was taken to Walter Knox Hospital in Emmett by ground ambulance. Both have non-life-threatening injuries. Traffic was blocked for approximately two hours. The crash is still under investigation led by Trooper J. Klitch.
