Update Fatal Crash on Eastbound I-84 in Boise

[UPDATED RELEASE, 08/28/2023 4:20 p.m.]

At this time, investigating troopers believe the fatal collision occurred after a Nissan Sentra stopped behind a Freightliner box truck because of a prior collision. A flatbed truck pulling a trailer struck the Nissan from behind and pushed it into the Freightliner. The impact moved the Nissan into another lane of travel where it was struck by a Peterbilt semi-truck.

The Nissan was driven by 36 year-old female driver from Tacoma, WA, and occupied by a 64 year-old male passenger from Tacoma, WA, and a female passenger in her 50's. The female passenger succumbed to her injuries on scene. The driver sustained serious injuries and remains hospitalized. The male was transported to the hospital, treated, and released.

All involved vehicles remained at the scene.

The driver of the Peterbilt was a 21 year-old male from Ontario, OR, and the driver of the flatbed truck pulling a trailer was a 54 year-old male from Nampa, ID. A GMC Yukon driven by a 44 year-old male was also damaged in the collision and its passengers sustained minor injuries but were not transported to the hospital.

The Ada County Coroner's Office took custody of the deceased. They will establish identity of the deceased as well as determine cause and manner of death.

The crash remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police.

The Idaho State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on August 26, 2023, at approximately 10:58 a.m., on westbound Interstate 84, near milepost 51, in Ada County, Idaho.

Five vehicles were involved in the crash which resulted in a fatality and other serious injuries.

The westbound lanes of Interstate 84 were blocked for approximately four hours, all lanes have been reopened.

This crash remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
