At 4:40 a.m. this morning, the Idaho State Police investigated a two-vehicle crash near the intersection of Sand Hollow Rd. and Market Rd. in Canyon County. Michael Newman, age 60, and Janet Newman, age 48, both of Caldwell, were outside of a Ford Fiesta changing a tire. The Ford was in the eastbound lane of Sand Hollow Rd., facing west, with the high-beam headlights on. Michael Carl, age 58, of Parma, was eastbound on Sand Hollow Rd in a Dodge pickup truck. Carl moved to the right to avoid a head-on collision, but side-swiped the Newmans' Fiesta and struck both Michael and Janet Newman. The Newmans were transported by ground ambulance to Saint Alphonsus in Boise. Carl was wearing his seat belt and was not transported. The crash remains under investigation.
