On Wednesday, January 7th, 2015, at approximately 12:45 p.m., Idaho State Police investigated a crash on US Highway 30 near milepost 30, south of New Plymouth. Dustin Riggs, 16, of New Plymouth, was driving a green 1998 Dodge pickup out of his driveway, which intersects US-30. There was heavy fog in the area. As Riggs entered the highway, he was struck by Harold Gifford, 73, also of New Plymouth, who was driving southbound on US-30 in a red 2012 Ford F-150.

Gifford and a passenger were transported by ground ambulance to St. Luke's in Fruitland. All occupants of the vehicles were wearing seatbelts. Both lanes of US-30 were blocked for approximately two hours while crews worked to clear the scene. The crash is still under investigation.
