On July 9, 2014, at approximately 6:44 a.m., the Idaho State Police investigated a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 84 at milepost 18, near Sand Hollow. Michael McDaniel, 32, of Puyallup, WA, was eastbound on I-84 at milepost 18 in a 2011 Freightliner pulling a trailer loaded with tortillas. McDaniel fell asleep, drove off the roadway, came back on the road and overturned.

McDaniel was wearing his seatbelt. He was transported to the West Valley Medical Center in Caldwell, ID by ground ambulance. The eastbound lanes were closed for six and a half hours. At approximately 8:20 a.m., the Idaho Transportation Department closed the interstate in the immediate area of the crash while the semi was up-righted and removed. It was re-opened at approximately 1:40 p.m. The crash is under investigation by the Idaho State Police.

The Idaho State Police are on scene of a one-vehicle crash eastbound I-84 at milepost 18, near the Sand Hollow exit. The Idaho Department of Transportation has closed the interstate from mileposts 17 to 25. ITD has a detour in place. More information will be released as it becomes available.
