MERIDIAN - The Idaho State Police will commission fifteen new troopers during a ceremony in the State Capitol Rotunda in Boise on Friday, July 11th at 10:00 a.m. During the ceremony the Advanced Training Class (ATC) of new troopers will take the oath of office and receive their campaign hat and badge. The class will be addressed by Lieutenant Governor Brad Little and Lieutenant Colonel Kedrick Wills, Deputy Director of the Idaho State Police. In a longstanding tradition of ISP, the class will showcase their patrol cars on the Statehouse steps beginning at 10:00 a.m. The public is invited to the ceremony and to take a step back into history with ISP's parade cars and period uniforms that will also be on display.

The Idaho State Police ATC is a 14-week program that all recruits must complete to become a state trooper, including those who were previously employed by another law enforcement agency and are already certified peace officers. Twelve of the troopers graduating completed the 10-week Peace Officer Standards Training (POST) Basic Patrol Academy just prior to attending ATC. Three of the troopers joined ISP after working for another law enforcement agency.

Upon graduation, the newly commissioned troopers will be assigned to one of six districts of ISP throughout the state to complete a field training program that lasts approximately 12 weeks. During this stage the new troopers will work with a series of experienced troopers who will teach, evaluate and document each of them in an on-the-job setting.
