Final Update: Fatal Crash on State Highway 55 near Smith's Ferry

On June 9, 2013, at approximately 2:18 p.m., the Idaho State Police investigated a two-vehicle fatality crash on State Highway 55 at milepost 93, south of Smiths Ferry. A 2000 Dodge Caravan, driven by Kristen Scott, 31 of Meridian, was northbound and failed to negotiate a curve and crossed into the southbound lane, where it was struck by a 1992 Peterbuilt cattle hauler, driven by Daniel McCroden, 70 of Nampa. McCroden was uninjured in the crash. Scott was pronounced deceased at the scene. It is unknown if seatbelts were worn.

Traffic was impacted for approximately 4 hours. All lanes are open at this time.

Due to several miles of backed up traffic, motorists should expect delays.

Idaho State Police is currently investigating a two-vehicle, head on collision, Northbound on State Highway 55 at milepost 93, near the Smith's Ferry area. Both lanes of travel are currently blocked and motorists are encouraged to avoid the area if at all possible. A full press release will be issued when the information is available.
