On June 1, 2013, at approximately 11:34 a.m., the Idaho State Police investigated a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 71 at milepost 2, near the Brownlee Dam. A 2000 Mazda Miata, driven by Donald Ribacchi, 86 of Boise, was headed northbound on State Highway 71, when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road. Ribacchi's vehicle crossed into the southbound lanes and struck the rear of a trailer, driven by Dennis Stewart, 59 of McCall, who was driving a 2010 Ford Econoline van. Ribacchi's vehicle went off the road and down an embankment. Ribacchi was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from his vehicle. Ribacchi was transported by air ambulance to St Alphonsus in Boise, where he was later pronounced deceased. Stewart and his passengers were uninjured in the crash.
