On June 5, 2012 at 4:14 pm, Idaho State Police investigated an injury crash eastbound on US20 at mile marker 325, near the Menan-Lorenzo Highway.

Jefferson County had received several reports of a fire in the median on US20 at 3:49 pm. Central Fire District arrived on scene to tend to a fire parking the fire engine in the eastbound left hand lane on US20. A Jefferson County Deputy patrol vehicle was parked approximately 75 feet behind the fire engine with its lights and arrow stick activated to help protect the scene. Brian J. Anderson, 22 of Idaho Falls, was traveling eastbound on US20 in a 2002 Jeep Liberty when he rear ended the patrol vehicle. Anderson told Idaho State Police Troopers he had received a text message on his phone was looking at it just prior to impact.

The Jefferson County Deputy had exited his patrol vehicle just prior to the crash and was not injured. Anderson was transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. He was wearing his seatbelt and the air bags deployed. Anderson was cited for inattentive driving.

Both eastbound lanes of travel on US20 were blocked causing motorists to use the shoulder to get around. The right lane of travel was opened back up after about an hour and the left lane of travel opened up after almost two hours. The Idaho Department of Transportation assisted with traffic control.

Idaho State Police was assisted with the investigation at the scene by Jefferson County Sheriff's Office
