ITD, ISP troopers partnered to stop unbelted drivers

The Idaho Transportation Department partnered with the Idaho State Police and other law enforcement agencies across Idaho to make highways safer by funding high visibility seat belt patrols from May 22nd � June 5th, 2012.

During this campaign, District 4 Idaho State Police troopers focused on enforcement of speed limits and traffic laws & citing those drivers / occupants who were unbelted. Here is a summary of the results:

DUI Arrests : 9
Seat Belt / Child Restraint Citations : 164
Felony Arrests : 4
Fugitives Apprehended : 5
Suspended Driver Licenses : 14
Uninsured Motorists : 118
Speeding Citations : 423
Reckless Driving Citations : 5
Drug Arrests : 9
Underage Alcohol Citations : 2
Other Various Contacts : 190

"Those occupants wearing a seatbelt during a speed-related crash, increase their chance of survival greatly," says Lt. Haight.
