On October 27, 2011 at 7:49 pm, Idaho State Police investigated a two vehicle injury crash involving a semi truck eastbound on I84 at mile marker 9, west of the New Plymouth Exit.

Melvin C. Reid, 62 of Mountain Home, was traveling eastbound on I84 in a 1979 Chevrolet Corvette. Reid was traveling below the posted speed limit and was rear ended by a 2009 Peterbuilt semi truck pulling a 2009 Utility Manufacturing Trailer. Upon impact, Reid's vehicle spun around coming to rest on the right shoulder of the roadway, causing the right lane of travel to be blocked for an hour.

Reid and his passenger, Michelle Sievers, 33 of Nampa, were both transported by ground ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries. They were both treated and released. The driver of the commercial vehicle, Kelly E. Chase, 48 of Caldwell, was not injured in the crash. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this crash.

This crash is still under investigation by the Idaho State Police. Trooper Hurley was assisted at the scene by Sergeant Ketchum, Corporal Tulleners, Trooper Cottrell, and Commercial Vehicle Specialist Uhlenkott.
