On Friday October 28, 2011 at approximately 2:06 pm Idaho State Police investigated a crash on US26 at milepost 391, near Elk Creek Turnoff and Palisades Reservoir.

Jarin Smith, 32, of Blackfoot, was traveling eastbound in a 2007 Kenworth tanker semi pulling a pup trailer loaded with fuel. Smith crossed the center line hitting the guardrail in the opposite lane of travel. This caused the pup trailer to overturn onto the guardrail, puncturing the pup trailer and setting fire to the fuel being transported.

Smith was able to disconnect the pup trailer from his tanker and pull away.
Smith was not injured in the crash. The roadway was blocked for approximately five hours.

Smith was cited for failing to maintain his lane of travel. Idaho State Police were assisted on scene by Bonneville County Sherriff's Office, Swan Valley Fire and EMS, Idaho Department of Transportation, and Bureau of Reclamation.
