Update: Crash blocking lanes westbound I84 in Nampa

On Sunday, January 1, 2016, at approximately 1:42 a.m., Idaho State Police investigated a three vehicle fatality crash, westbound Interstate 84 at milepost 31, in Caldwell.

Ricardo N. Sanchez, 37, of Caldwell, was traveling westbound in a 2000 Plymouth Neon when he struck the median guardrail and came to rest partially in the left lane where he exited his vehicle. James E. Harrell, 48, of Middleton, was traveling westbound in a 2011 Ford F250 when he stopped on the right shoulder, and exited his vehicle to assist Sanchez. Deacon S. Baker, 22, of Meridian, was also traveling westbound in a 2004 Toyota Corolla. Baker swerved to avoid Sanchez's vehicle, sideswiped an unknown vehicle and crashed into the median guardrail. Jessica R. Echiribel, 20, of Middleton, was also traveling westbound in a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Echiribel swerved to avoid Sanchez's vehicle and lost control. Sanchez and Harrell were both then struck by vehicles involved in the crash.

Sanchez succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash. Harrell was transported by ground ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. Next of kin has been notified.

The crash is under investigation by Idaho State Police.

Idaho State Police is currently investigating a crash westbound Interstate 84 at milepost 31, near Ustick Road in Caldwell. The westbound lanes are currently blocked at exit 33A, Karcher Bypass. Traffic control is in place. More information will be released when available.
