Update: 8 vehicles now involved after Troopers make arrest in a shooting incident

The investigation into shots fired from a pickup on eastbound I-84 early Wednesday morning remains ongoing. Troopers arrested a Meridian man Wednesday and charged him with several felony counts connected to the incident.

After a day of investigation and contacting witnesses, investigators have identified 8 vehicles believed to have been hit and damaged by the gunshots, including 6 personal and 2 law enforcement vehicles. ISP detectives believe there may be other reports connected to this incident that remains under investigation. At this time, there are two confirmed non-life-threatening injuries connected to the incident. Both individuals suffered gunshot wounds and have been treated and released from area hospitals.

The Idaho State Police would like to thank witnesses and victims who called emergency dispatchers to report this incident which allowed law enforcement to locate and stop the suspect vehicle. Anyone who may be a witness and has not yet spoken with investigators is urged to contact ISP dispatch at 208-846-7500.

ISP would also like to thank the number of other agencies who worked together to locate and stop the suspect vehicle Wednesday morning; The Jerome, Gooding, Cassia, and Twin Falls County Sheriff's Offices, and the Jerome and Kimberly Police.

April 6, 2022, 3:30 p.m. - Update: A Meridian man has been booked into the Jerome County Jail and charged with multiple felony counts connected to this mornings incident.

Arrested: Braddley D.W. Tannehill, 34, Meridian

Charged: Aggravated Assault (F)
Assault or Battery on Certain Personnel (F)

The investigation into shots fired from a pickup toward passing motorists on eastbound I-84 early this morning remains ongoing.

April 6, 2022, 7:56 a.m. - The Idaho State Police and a Critical Incident Task Force are investigating after an early morning pursuit that followed several citizen reports of shots being fired from a vehicle on eastbound Interstate 84.

An Idaho State Police Trooper on patrol caught up to the suspect vehicle as it crossed into Jerome County. Moments later, the Trooper also reported coming under fire.

Multiple agencies joined the pursuit of the suspect vehicle as more shots were fired toward officers.

At approximately 3:30am, with the aid of spike strips, the suspect vehicle, a pickup truck, was stopped at milepost 192. Two occupants of the vehicle, a male driver and female passenger were taken into custody without further incident.

No shots were fired by law enforcement.

The incident is being investigated by a Critical Incident Task Force with Cassia County Sheriffs Office leading the CITF investigation.

Traffic lanes of eastbound I-84 at milepost 192 remain blocked or restricted as the investigation continues.

Investigators appreciate the calls from motorists who allowed officers to locate the suspect vehicle. If anyone witnessed this mornings incident and has not spoken with investigators, they're asked to contact Idaho State Police dispatch at 208-846-7500.
