Idaho State Police is investigating a multi-vehicle collision that occurred at approximately 05:15 A.M., January 7, 2022, on I-15 near milepost 62.1, south of Pocatello.

The driver of a 2020 Freightliner (Swift), pulling a single enclosed trailer was traveling southbound I-15 near milepost 62.1. The driver lost control of the Tractor Trailer. The Tractor Truck slid off the roadway on the right shoulder, jack knifing. The trailer was stopped across both southbound lanes.

The driver of a black Dodge Ram 1500 pickup saw the trailer and was able to come to a stop on the roadway. The driver of a silver GMC SUV was not able to stop, lost control of the vehicle and collided with the Ram. The GMC then slid into the back end of the trailer of the Swift Truck. The driver of a Toyota Sienna minivan also slid into the Swift trailer.

The two occupants of the Toyota, a 58-year-old man and a 57-year-old woman from Bakersfield, CA, we're transported by ground ambulance to a nearby medical center.

Traffic southbound I-15 was stopped for approximately 5 hours to allow emergency responders to assist those involved.

ISP Troopers are investigating this crash. Evidence on scene indicates vehicles involved appeared to be traveling too fast for the icy conditions.
