On September 4, 2021, at approximately 2:20 a.m., the Idaho State Police investigated a two vehicle crash eastbound I90 at milepost 1. Jazmyne Taylor, 23 of Coeur d'Alene, ID, was driving a White 2006 Dodge Ram approaching milepost 1. Taylor lost control of the vehicle, went into the median and the vehicle rolled. Mark Roberts, 40 of Deer Park, WA, was a passenger in the Dodge Ram and was ejected from the truck. Roberts succumbed to injuries at the scene of the crash. Shortly after the Dodge Ram rolled it was struck in the lane of travel by Alejandro Cardenas Cazares, 39, of Downey, CA, who was driving a 2006 Honda Accord. Upon being struck the Dodge Ram became fully engulfed in flames. Taylor was still in the Dodge Ram at the time it was engulfed, and Cardenas Cazares pulled Taylor out of the vehicle. Taylor was transported to Kootenai Health. Taylor was wearing a seatbelt. Roberts was not wearing a seatbelt. Cardenas Cazares was wearing a seatbelt. Alcohol is being investigated as a factor. The investigation is ongoing.
