On May 1, 2021, at approximately 12:55 p.m., the Idaho State
Police investigated a single-vehicle fatality crash on eastbound US2 at
milepost 9. This is just a mile east of Priest River, in Bonner County, ID.
Maria S. Montgomery, 60, of Sandpoint, ID, was driving
westbound on US2 in a tan 2004 Toyota Corolla. Montgomery lost control of the
vehicle. The vehicle left the roadway, went onto the north shoulder, and
overturned.
Also in Montgomerys vehicle were three juvenile occupants.
One juvenile male was transported by ground ambulance to Newport Hospital and
Health Services in Newport, where he was pronounced deceased. Montgomery and
the other two juvenile passengers were transported to Sacred Heart by air
ambulance. Next of kin has been notified. This investigation is still ongoing.
