On March 13, 2021, at approximately 12:20 p.m., the Idaho State Police investigated a two-vehicle minor injury crash on northbound US95 at milepost 391. This is approximately four miles south of Plummer in Benewah County, ID.

Riley A. Callahan, 19, of Desmet, ID, was traveling southbound in US95 at milepost 391 in a gray 2003 Ford Taurus. Nathan A. Smead, 44, of Vermont, was traveling northbound in a 2019 Kenworth semi-truck. Upon navigating a corner, Callahan drove left of center, and the two vehicles collided. The Taurus came to a rest in the trees on the east side of the road. The semi-truck stayed blocking one southbound lane of travel. Approximately 40-50 gallons of fuel was spilled from the semi-truck.
Also in Callahans car was a juvenile passenger.

Callahan was transported by ground ambulance to Kootenai Health, in Coeur d Alene, ID, where she was treated and released. She was not wearing a seatbelt.

The roadway was blocked for approximately 4 hours for the cleanup and vehicle recovery process.

This investigation is ongoing.
