Update: ISP Detectives lead a multi-agency investigation into a shooting involving sheriff's deputies and a tribal police officer.

July 20, 2020 - The multi-agency investigation is continuing into an incident that occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 18 in Idaho County. A driver reportedly fled from a traffic stop. After the driver led local deputies and a tribal officer on a pursuit that crossed county lines, shots were fired. Information in this release is considered preliminary pending, the ongoing investigation.

The involved driver has been identified as Sean L. Anderson, 52. Anderson is believed to be a resident of Idaho County. Anderson is currently hospitalized receiving medical treatment for his injuries.

As previously reported, the agencies involved request critical incident protocol which, invoked a multi-agency investigation. That investigation is being led by Detectives with the Idaho State Police with assistance from Agents with the FBI. Information previously released is pasted below. Additional information will be made available as the investigation allows from the Media Relations/PIO Office of the Idaho State Police headquarters in Meridian.

Previously Released:

July 18, 2020 - The Idaho State Police are leading a multi-agency investigation into a shooting that occurred early this morning in Idaho County involving sheriff's deputies and tribal police. The involved agencies have invoked critical incident protocols. Information in this release is considered preliminary pending the ongoing investigation.

Information available for release at this time:
At approximately 2:47 this morning, a Deputy with the Lewis County Sheriff's Office attempted a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 12 on a vehicle for an apparent equipment violation. The driver initially stopped for the investigating Deputy but then drove off which initiated a pursuit. A Deputy with the Idaho County Sheriff's Office and an Officer with the Nez Perce Tribal Police assisted two Lewis County Deputies in the pursuit.

At approximately 3:38 a.m., the driver stopped in a residential area of Ferdinand in Idaho County. Shots were fired. The driver was injured and is currently hospitalized. Neither the County Deputies involved nor the Tribal Police Officer were injured.

At this time, the investigation into the incident is ongoing and being led by Detectives with the Idaho State Police with assistance from Agents with the FBI. Additional information will be released as the investigation allows.
