May 21, 2020 - While Idaho's Stay Healthy Order, currently in Stage 2, continues to recommend folks minimize non-essential travel, the long holiday weekend may be a time some Idahoans choose to responsibly and safely reconnect with family and friends. Idaho State Police Troopers want those traveling through Central Idaho this weekend to know troopers will be out at full staff patrolling roadways from Lewiston to Riggins and beyond, working to keep motorists safe.

"We want this Memorial Day holiday to be a time we honor those who've sacrificed for our nation, and as appropriate, to enjoy friends and family." said Sgt. Chris Middleton with the ISP District 2 Patrol Division. "The current pandemic that's hit our nation has meant extra anxiety for some. No one wants the added stress or tragedy that comes from being involved in a crash caused by irresponsible driving. That's why we're asking motorists to take extra precaution this holiday weekend, and why our troopers will be out ready to assist and enforce traffic laws."

Idaho State troopers in Central Idaho will join partner law enforcement agencies in assisting motorists with unforeseen vehicle issues as well as watching out for driving offenses that often cause crashes, such as driving under the influence (DUI), distracted driving, and drowsy driving among others.

On behalf of everyone at the Idaho State Police, please have a safe and fun Memorial Day weekend. Drive safe, drive sober and please use good judgment.
