On December 20, 2018, Ramiro Gonzalez Gutierrez succumbed to his injuries at St. Alphonsus in Boise. Next of kin has been notified.

On Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at 5:47 p.m., Idaho State Police investigated an injury crash on U.S. Highway 93 at the junction of State Highway 25, east of Jerome.

Ramiro Gonzalez Gutierrez, 69, of Hazleton, was driving a 1993 Chevrolet S10 pickup east on State Highway 25 at the intersection with U.S. Highway 93. Michael Burton, 40, of Dietrich, was driving 2007 Honda Pilot south on U.S. 93. Gonzalez Gutierrez stopped at the stop sign, but then failed to yield and collided with Burton's vehicle.

Gonzalez Gutierrez and his passenger, Adela Lemus, 67, of Hazelton, were transported to St. Luke's Magic Valley and later to St. Alphonsus in Boise. Investigators do not believe they were wearing seat belts. Michael Burton and his passenger, Robin Burton, 37, of Dietrich were wearing seat belts and neither were transported.

During the collision a tire came from one of the vehicles and struck a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta nearby. It did not injure either of the occupants.

The southbound lanes of U.S. 93 were blocked for about two hours while crews worked to clear the scene. Idaho State Police was assisted by Jerome County Sheriff's Office, ITD, Magic Valley Paramedics, and Jerome Rural Fire Department.
