On Thursday, December 12, 2018, at 7:13 a.m., the Idaho State Police investigated a three vehicle injury crash westbound on Interstate 84 at milepost 36, in Nampa. Ricky Hickstein, 59, of Vancouver, WA, was driving a 2008 Dodge pickup in the merging (left) lane. Kenneth Brooks, 56, of Star was driving a 2003 Peterbilt tractor pulling double tanker trailers in the middle lane. Alysson Lindquist, 29, of Boise, was driving a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer in the right lane. Hickstein failed to yield as he merged into the middle lane and struck the front of Brooks' Peterbilt tractor with the rear of his Dodge. The Dodge then collided with Lindquist's Mercury. Hickstein's and Lindquist's vehicles then struck the concrete barrier on the north side of the interstate. Hickstein's vehicle re-entered the lanes of travel, facing eastbound in the westbound lanes, and struck the Peterbilt on the passenger side. Brooks then lost control, causing the tractor and tanker trailers to overturn onto the driver's side, coming to rest in the lanes of travel.

All drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash. Brooks was transported by ground ambulance to St. Alphonsus Medical Center off Garrity Boulevard in Nampa. Lanes were blocked for approximately five hours for the investigation and clean-up of the crash scene. A large quantity of liquid sugar beet extract was spilled onto the roadway. Hickstein was cited and released for inattentive/careless driving.
