On Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at approximately 12:04 a.m., the Idaho State Police investigated a two-vehicle head-on crash on U.S. Highway 93 at milepost 13.9, south of Rogerson.

Samuel J. Smith, 28, of Filer, was driving southbound, in a 2008 Toyota Highlander.

Enrique M. Salas Viernes, 22, of Rogerson, was driving northbound, in a 2005 Ford Focus.

The Toyota Highlander crossed over the center line and struck the Ford Focus head-on at milepost 13.9. Both vehicles came to rest on the east side of the road down an embankment. Enrique M. Salas Viernes was transported by air ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. His passenger, Laura M. Salas Viernes, 18, of Rogerson, was not injured. Occupants of both vehicles were wearing seatbelts.

Smith was booked in to the Twin Falls County Jail for Aggravated Driving under the Influence.

This crash is under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
