On September 18, 2017, at 8:46 a.m., Idaho State Police investigated a fatal crash at 1011 E and 3800 N, just outside of Buhl,ID.

Claudia Padilla Valdez, 24, of Buhl, ID was driving eastbound on 3800 N in a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. Scott Waller, 56, of Buhl, ID was driving southbound on 1000 E in a Peterbuilt semi pulling a trailer.
Padilla Valdez failed to yield at the stop sign and entered the intersection, where her vehicle was struck on the driver's side by the semi. Both vehicles came to rest on the southeast corner of the intersection. The semi came to rest on its side. Waller was transported by air ambulance to St Luke's Magic Valley Medical Center in Twin Falls. Padilla Valdez succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Next of kin have been notified.

Padilla Valdez was wearing a seatbelt. Waller was not wearing a seatbelt.

Roads were blocked for approximately four hours.
