On April 12, 2017, at approximately 5:01 a.m., John Vazquez, age 36, of Twin Falls, was driving eastbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 62, just east of Boise. Vazquez was driving in a Freightliner commercial vehicle with a trailer, when he fell asleep and drove off the roadway on the left shoulder. Vazquez overcorrected and the vehicle overturned as it came back onto the roadway, coming to rest in the eastbound lanes of travel. The driver was transported to St. Luke's Medical Center in Boise.

The right lane and part of the left lane of eastbound Interstate 84 were blocked by the trailer for approximately two hours while crews worked to clear the scene. Vazquez was wearing a seatbelt. The crash is under investigation by the Idaho State Police.

Idaho State Police is investigating a crash eastbound on I84 at mile marker 62, near the Blacks Creek Rest Area.

At this time, both eastbound lanes are blocked. Traffic is slowly moving through the area using the left shoulder.

Motorists should expect delays.
