Frank M. Ortega was transported by air ambulance from St. Luke's Magic Valley in Twin Falls to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. At 2:25 am, he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Frank Ortega was wearing his seatbelt.

Next of kin has been notified.

On Friday, December 16, 2016, at 4:33 pm, the Idaho State Police investigated a one vehicle fatality crash, eastbound on I84 near milepost 178.1, in Jerome County.

Frank M. Ortega, 85, of Heyburn, was traveling eastbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 178 in a 2005 Ford Excursion. Ortega changed lanes, slid and went into the median where the vehicle rolled.

A passenger in the vehicle, David E. Ortega, 28, of Heyburn, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Frank M. Ortega and another passenger, April Gutierrez, 22, of Rupert, were both transported by ground ambulance to St. Luke's Magic Valley. April and David were not wearing seatbelts.

Next of kin has been notified.

This crash is under investigation by the Idaho State Police.

The Idaho State Police is currently investigating a crash on WB I84 milepost 178.5, in Jerome County. Westbound and eastbound lanes of travel are currently blocked on I84. More information will be released when it becomes available.
