On October 13, 2015, at approximately 1:45 p.m., Idaho State Police investigated a two-vehicle crash eastbound on Interstate 86 at milepost 52, west of the Pocatello Airport. Nelda Williams, age 91, of Arbon, was traveling eastbound in a 2002 Chrysler Town and Country. Nelda's vehicle then stopped, reversed back down the Interstate in order to turn her vehicle around through the median. Monica Johnson, age 16, of American Falls, was traveling eastbound in a 1998 Nissan Sentra, when she saw Williams' vehicle in her lane and struck Williams' vehicle. Johnson was transported by ground ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center.

Williams and Johnson were both wearing their seatbelts. The left lane of eastbound travel was blocked for approximately one hour and forty-five minutes while crews worked to clear the scene. Williams was cited for unsafe backing. The crash is under investigation by Idaho State Police.
