Final Update - One Vehicle Rollover Crash Near Malta

On August 8, 2015, at approximately 4:27 p.m., Idaho State Police investigated a single vehicle rollover crash eastbound on Interstate 84, at milepost 254, near Malta. John Bisengimana, age 35, of Boise, was driving eastbound in a 2005 Nissan Xterra. Bisengimana drove off the left side of the roadway, overcorrected, and came back onto the roadway. The vehicle left the roadway once more before it rolled. The vehicle came to rest facing westbound in the eastbound lanes of travel of the Interstate.

A passenger in the vehicle, Rose Uwimana, age 47, of Boise, was not wearing her seatbelt and was ejected. Uwimana succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the crash. Notification to Uwimana's family has been made. A second passenger, Kabura Meliki, age 62 of Boise, also succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash. Notification to Meliki's family has been made. Bisengimana and a third passenger, Nsabimana Victoria, age 49 of Boise, were transported by air ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello.

Both eastbound lanes of travel were blocked for approximately 6 and a half hours while crews worked to clear the scene. The crash is under investigation by Idaho State Police.
