On Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at approximately 7:50 p.m., the Idaho State Police investigated a single vehicle crash eastbound Interstate 84 at milepost 146, west of Wendell.
Michael W. Blankenship, 62, of Murtaugh, was travelling eastbound in a 1999 Chevrolet Corvette when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road. Blankenship overcorrected his vehicle and hit the guardrail on the south side of the road and proceeded to hit a cement barrier on the north side of the road where the vehicle came to rest.

Blankenship was transported by air ambulance to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise.

Blankenship was not wearing his seatbelt.

One eastbound lane was blocked for approximately 1 hour. The other lane was blocked for approximately 2 hours.

This crash is under investigation by the Idaho State Police.

At this time, the Idaho State Police is investigating a single vehicle crash eastbound Interstate 84 at milepost 146, west of Wendell. Both eastbound lanes are completely blocked. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area if possible and to use an alternate route of travel.
